Design My Nursery with Me!

Want to see what baby’s nursery looks like? As a creative person, I love bringing design and beauty to all areas or my life and this was a particularly fun and special project.

What I was aiming for (a.k.a. my mood board):

I wanted to keep the nursery gender-neutral overall because we plan on having more than one kid. Also, Carter and I have a very minimal style so this seemed to fit the look of the rest of our house, too.

We decided to go with a moon and stars theme so that we could keep the color palette confined to black, beige, grey, etc. Alll the nuetrals!

Here’s a look at what I was aiming for when I started the project.

Before:

Before becoming the nursery, this room was first our bedroom, then a spare bedroom, then my office…. we’ve been through a lot of transition over the last few years of living here. Carter and I love to do house renovation projects in our free time which means things are constantly getting shifted around to make the best use of the space that’s not currently a construction zone.

Over the last 7-8 months of prepping for baby to arrive, we’ve been slowly accumulating gifts and hand-me-downs from friends and family. Andddd all of these wonderful gifts didn’t have anywhere to go, so they’ve been stacked in the nice pile you see below. My goal is to find a place for all of it once I can begin to design the nursery.

What’s the hold-up?

I think it’s also important to mention that the current project we’ve been undertaking is adding a second bathroom to our home which currently only has 1 full bath. This has been fine for Carter and I, but as we begin to grow our family, we know we will appreciate having a second bathroom. Once the bathroom is done, we will be able to move some other storage items around, get carpet in the bedrooms, and establish my home office space once and for all.

Here’s a picture of the finished bathroom space!

We’re loving the way this new carpet looks!

Having the carpet in made a huge difference! We were finally able to start organizing the room but it still has a long way to go at this point.

And, now for the big reveal! Well… kind of.

The nursery is also temporarily a guest bedroom because my sweet mom kindly offered to come stay with us to help for the first week. So, while this guest bed will ultimately be replaced with a crib when she leaves, for now the room has to serve a double purpose. But, overall, I’m loving all the soft natural light and the cute bookshelf Carter installed.

Coming soon: the crib, mobile, baby monitor, and play mat.

While my mom is staying, the glider and changing pad will be in my office. It’s all a work in progress but I couldn’t be more excited to meet little Roman and I couldn’t be more grateful for my family’s support during our big transition.

Until next time! - Whitney
